Meet Kim Baker

Director, Event Marketing

What's your Tech Data story?
I joined Tech Data as an event planner in 2007, and have worked on every type of event we’ve produced while progressing to various leadership positions on our team. Once a team of 11, we now have an amazing staff of 24.

How did you get your start in event planning?
I started planning events in high school and knew I wanted a career in the field. In college, I took as many marketing courses and event-focused internships as possible. After graduation, I started with ClubCorp organizing weddings, golf tournaments and social events.

What talent or experience sets you apart in your field?
I have more than 16 years in the event planning marketing field, am a CMP (Certified Meeting Planner) and a CPCE (Certified Professional Catering Executive). Additionally, I have taught event planning courses with the University of South Florida’s continuing education program for seven years.

How would you describe your role at Tech Data Agency?
I oversee the event marketing operations for Tech Data Americas (U.S. and LAC) markets.
Along with a talented team of planners, we create face-to-face interaction opportunities for Tech Data customers, internal teams and vendors through innovative events and marketing campaigns.

Have you earned awards or special honors?
While with ClubCorp, I earned entrance into their President’s Club (Club 100), was recognized by the Tampa Bay Times as a rising star in the event marketing industry in 2009 and was chapter president of the National Association of Catering and Events for over six years, as well as named Member of the Year twice.

Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Clearwater, Fla., and have lived in the Tampa Bay area my entire life. I currently reside in St. Petersburg, Fla., with my husband Shane and our dog Barley.
