Diversity & Inclusion

We believe our people are the best and brightest in the industry and as diverse as the products and services we provide. A cornerstone of our culture, Tech Data believes diversity and inclusion in our global workforce produces more innovative results and provides a competitive advantage. Collaboration that brings together different experiences, perspectives and backgrounds drives our success as one of the world’s largest technology distribution and solutions companies.

Our Mission
Tech Data’s Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) mission is to build an environment of inclusion for our diverse workforce, and thereby position Tech Data as a top industry competitor and employer of choice.

Our best practices supporting D&I include:

  • Leaders role-modeling inclusion
  • Building a diverse workforce
  • Education and learning opportunities
  • Outreach and engagement with diverse communities
  • Strategic colleague engagement

Our Strategic Focus Areas
Our approach to D&I includes three strategic focus areas. These focus areas ensure Tech Data is nurturing a diverse workforce, encouraging an inclusive workplace and helping others in the industry do the same.

  • Workforce

Tech Data’s focus on building a diverse workforce includes recruitment, development and ongoing education. From employing best practices to ensure we attract a diverse applicant pool to providing hiring managers with tools to combat unconscious bias, we strive to attract, develop and retain diverse colleagues across all functions and levels of our company.

  • Workplace

To foster an inclusive workplace across all our regions, we engage local senior leaders and D&I champions to support and promote our D&I program. We recognize the unique cultural attributes of our global operations and the value local leadership brings to encouraging an inclusive workplace. Tech Data has also developed cultural competence education modules with virtual and blended learning opportunities for regional and remote colleagues.

  • Marketplace

In addition to driving our own D&I efforts within Tech Data, we strive to be an industry influencer and connector. This includes:

  • Maintaining a consistent D&I presence at industry events
  • Collaborating with vendor and non-compete business resource groups to enhance relationships
  • Expanding our local presence and exposing colleagues to different communities
  • Establishing our Annual Diversity and Inclusion Conference as an industry benchmark
  • Participating in surveys used as benchmarks by D&I associations in an effort to become more competitive and raise awareness of Tech Data’s D&I successes

Tech Data’s Leadership Commitment
Our commitment to and progress in D&I stems from strong leadership. From the top down, there is a clear demonstration of leadership commitment and support for our D&I program. Furthering this commitment, in 2019, Tech Data Chief Executive Officer Rich Hume joined over 500 other CEOs in support of the CEO Action for Diversity & InclusionTM – the largest CEO-driven business commitment to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Before becoming a privately held company, Tech Data made a conscious and strategic effort to enhance Board diversity. In 2020, 40% of our Board was diverse in regards to gender and race/ethnicity, compared to 18% in 2014. We have also received “Winning” status from 2020 Women on Boards for exceeding 20% female representation on our Board.

How We Manage Diversity & Inclusion
Though Tech Data’s D&I program was formally established in 2014 to promote the benefits of a diverse workforce, we have long engaged in supporting workforce diversity. The strategic direction of our program aligns with Tech Data’s mission and vision and parallels the organization’s business goals and objectives. The Office of Diversity and Inclusion continually works to develop a structure that builds inclusivity into all levels of the organization to ensure consistency and continuity in all efforts.

D&I Organizational Structure

Diversity and Inclusion Councils

Our D&I efforts have global impact, with a Global D&I Council, four regional councils (in North America, Latin America and Caribbean, Europe and Asia-Pacific) and local councils in a number of our locations. Tech Data’s D&I Councils are comprised of leaders representing a cross-section of the company who help to lead, promote and measure the organization’s progress. As part of our long-term strategy, each council is charged with integrating our D&I strategy within our core business through the activation of Inclusion Action Teams.

Business Resource Groups
Many of our colleagues are actively engaged in our business resource groups (BRGs). These groups provide positive forums for our colleagues to discuss common experiences and goals with individuals of like or similar interests.

Beacon
Beacon is dedicated to supporting the recruitment, retention, enablement and advancement of black colleagues at Tech Data. Beacon also acts as a change agent to foster inclusiveness and meaningful interactions between all levels of Tech Data’s colleagues, the industry and the community.

Elevate
Elevate is dedicated to empowering women to thrive in their careers at Tech Data through development, education and networking. Our goal is to foster an inclusive and equitable environment between Tech Data’s colleagues, channel partners and communities through meaningful interactions. The recruitment, retention and advancement of women into leadership positions is essential to Tech Data’s success as an industry leader.

FUERZA is committed to empowering the Hispanic/Latinx community. This group contributes to the overall success of Tech Data by advocating for the professional development of Hispanic/Latinx colleagues and providing education on the inspiring and diverse cultures from across Latin America.
