Tech Data and Artists in Costa Rica Come Together to Support the LGBTIQ+ Community

In conjunction with the month-long celebration of LGBTIQ+ pride, Tech Data, in collaboration with artists and illustrators, has launched the Pride Focus Mask Safe project in Costa Rica. This initiative seeks to financially support the work of Casa Rara through the sale of masks specifically designed by artists María José Da Luz, Marco Black and Dino Urpí (Dino Real) to creatively convey the meaning of Pride.

Casa Rara, an organization founded in 2018, supports people under the age of 25 who have been victims of discrimination because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. This support includes psychological, financial and academic assistance, with the goal of generating a route toward autonomy. In addition, the institution provides support to LGBTIQ+ families so that they have tools to face social discrimination.

This project aims to enable people to not only dress with pride, but at the same time support an organization that defends rights, equality and love. At Tech Data, we promote that all people can live proud of who they are, loving without any limitation – and are therefore honored to be able to support the work of Casa Rara.

As Antonio Masís, vice president, Global Customer Management Services for Tech Data, says, we are a company that is “committed to inclusion and the defense of equal rights for all people.” “This initiative allows us to support an organization that shares our vision and that seeks to continue creating opportunities for the LGBTIQ+ community,” he added.

Shi Alarcón-Zamora, director of Casa Rara, describes what Casa Rara does as helping “LGBTIQ+ people feel proud of who they are.”

“Each one has a light that they have wanted to turn off and Pride month is a reminder that we have to continue fighting to achieve our rights so that no one has to feel grief or violence for being who he is,” Alarcón-Zamora stressed.

The masks can be purchased directly from Casa Rara or through the WhatsApp number 8460-4829. The cost is ₡3000 (plus shipping cost). All funds raised will benefit Casa Rara. NOTE:  These masks are only available locally in Costa Rica (international shipping is not available).

At Tech Data, we understand that the LGBTIQ+ community is vital, worthy, and deserving of corporate support. In Costa Rica, the Tech Data team signed the Declaration of San José against discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression and in favor of the promotion of Human Rights. Our company earned a perfect score on the 2021 Corporate Equality Index and was designated a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality” for the 16th time.
