Tech Data anuncia resultados récord en el primer trimestre

Los ingresos netos aumentaron 33% mientras que las ventas crecieron 27%

7 de junio del 2000 - En inglés

CLEARWATER, FL-- Tech Data began its current fiscal year with record-breaking sales and net income that underscore the company's growing industry leadership position and exceptional execution across its operations. For the fiscal quarter that ended April 30, 2000, Tech Data's net income grew 33% to $37.2 million, or $.68 per diluted share, compared to $28.0 million, or $.53 per diluted share, in the comparable period last year. Sales in the first quarter this year grew 27% to $4.92 billion, up from $3.88 billion in the first quarter last year.

"We are extremely pleased with our first-quarter performance," commented Steven A. Raymund, Tech Data's chairman and chief executive officer. "These results show substantial market share gains, particularly in the Americas, while demonstrating the continued success of our overall strategic plan."

First-quarter sales grew 48% in the U.S. and 19% in Europe on a local currency basis. Rest-of-world sales increased 82%. Systems and peripheral sales both grew by 35%, and networking business increased 17% during the period. Software sales were unchanged, accounting for approximately 11% of total sales. Peripherals business represented 46% of total sales, systems 29% and networking 14%. Electronic commerce sales grew to $4.5 billion on an annualized basis, up more than 100% from the prior year first quarter.

Strong service levels in all key areas paved the way for the company's outstanding financial results and superior growth. Tech Data maintained excellent fill rates while it continued to reduce inventory levels for most product categories—a strategy supported by close interaction with vendor partners and customers as well as enhanced internal asset management practices and system controls.

Leading manufacturers continue to establish or strengthen alliances with Tech Data to leverage its logistics management expertise and other value-added services. Among recent major developments, in the U.S. the company added to its offering the Apple product line, Panasonic notebook computers and Seagate hard disc drives.

"We're right where we want to be—in the center of the IT supply chain," Raymund stated. "The added value and efficiency we bring to the table make a huge difference for IT resellers and vendors who want to do business as cost effectively as possible. Our results attest to the unparalleled economic advantage that we consistently deliver."

Certain matters discussed in this news release are forward-looking statements that involve a number of risks and uncertainties. Factors that could cause actual results to differ materially include the following: business conditions and growth in the personal computer industry and general economy; competitive factors including compressed gross profit margins; inventory risks due to shifts in market demand; product availability; changes in product mix; labor strikes; fluctuations in foreign currency exchange rates; income tax legislation; and the risk factors listed from time to time in the company's reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
