24 de julio del 2000 - En inglés

CLEARWATER, FL (July 24, 2000) - Tech Data Corp., a leading global provider of IT products, logistics management and other value-added services, today announced it has joined with Seagate Technology Inc. to give resellers access to the storage industry's first collaborative e-commerce marketplace. The new Reseller Marketplace, powered by the Comergent Distributed E-Business System from Comergent Technologies Inc., offers resellers a fast and convenient way to view real-time pricing and availability of Seagate products via the Web, while leveraging Tech Data's world-class service and logistics capabilities when making their purchase. The Marketplace, which is exclusive to Seagate Partner Program (SPP) resellers, may be accessed at http://marketplace.seagate.com both during and after normal business hours, seven days a week.

"Superior supply-chain management capabilities will be the key differential between those who can and cannot effectively compete in the digital economy," said Dan Ahlstedt, vice president and general manager of Tech Data's Components Product Marketing Division. "Seagate's drive to continually integrate business processes with automated e-commerce solutions, while engaging all points in the channel, underscores their understanding of this reality and their commitment to deliver on it."

"Through our new Reseller Marketplace, SPP resellers will now enjoy the fastest, most efficient online purchasing process for Seagate products, backed by the strengths of Tech Data's logistics capabilities," said Todd Marshburn, director of e-commerce for Seagate. "The streamlined integration of information now available to our mutual customers will improve the operational efficiency of the ordering process and shorten sales cycles."

"Seagate's Reseller Marketplace, powered by Comergent, will enable Seagate and Tech Data to conduct collaborative e-commerce in real-time with each other, while delivering a seamless and direct buying experience via the Internet to resellers and customers," says Jean Kovacs, president and CEO of Comergent. "This initiative further reinforces Comergent as the leader in enabling collaborative partner marketplaces to create channel-friendly e-commerce environments."

How it works

Technology resellers begin the online purchasing process by accessing Seagate's Reseller Marketplace at http://marketplace.seagate.com. Once there, resellers have access to real-time customized pricing and availability on a wide variety of Seagate products ranging from desktop to enterprise storage solutions and can then seamlessly fill orders for fulfillment by Tech Data. Resellers are also given immediate access to Tech Data's comprehensive electronic product catalog where they can place additional orders for products complementary to their Seagate purchase. Upon completion of the process, Tech Data sends resellers their order confirmations via e-mail, and order status can be verified online any time after entry.

To support technology resellers and systems integrators with component sales, Tech Data has established an integrated product marketing and sales division specializing in this sector of the industry. Tech Data also offers customized packaging and shipping of Seagate products to meet the specific purchasing requirements of its various customer segments.

Through Seagate's unique consignment model, Seagate will retain ownership of all products and closely monitor inventory levels via electronic data interchange (EDI). Using this system, Seagate will have immediate insight into technology demand cycles with the flexibility to automatically replenish stock in step with customer needs.
