Tech Data avanza en la lista Info Tech 100 de Business Week

14 de junio de 2001 - En inglés

CLEARWATER, Fla. - For the third consecutive year, Tech Data Corp. has received a leading ranking in BusinessWeek's Info Tech 100, the magazine's annual listing of the best technology companies in the United States. The global provider of technology products and logistics management services placed 53rd and eclipsed its competitors as the only company of its type to be listed in the 2001 Info Tech 100. Appearing in the June 18 issue of BusinessWeek, the Info Tech 100 named Tech Data 9th in the services and distributors category and 9th in sales among all ranked companies.

As a top performer in the technology distribution arena, Tech Data emphasizes efficiency and core competencies delivering on-target revenue, achieving better-than-anticipated gross margins while maintaining strong cost controls and selling, general and administrative (SG&A) expenses that decline year-over-year. In the past year, the company has implemented such initiatives as an activity-based costing model to identify and minimize actual costs of serving business partners. To generate new areas of growth, Tech Data has established nine specialized business units to provide expertise in lucrative niche markets including networking solutions, enterprise, supplies and accessories, components, CAD/graphics, digital imaging, Apple solutions, information appliances and licensing. Tech Data's business-to-business electronic commerce solutions help its customers reduce costs while increasing proficiency and account for sales of $5.4 billion on an annualized basis within that division.

BusinessWeek compiled the Info Tech 100 after first reviewing financial data from Standard & Poor's Compustat, a division of The McGraw-Hill Companies that has computerized information on 10,000 publicly traded corporations. The magazine narrowed the analysis to IT companies and then added non-U.S. tech companies identified by its network of foreign bureaus. Qualifying companies generated at least $400 million in annual revenue last year. Internet companies, however, with $25 million or more in sales were also included "because their impact is often more significant than their revenues," according to the magazine. Companies that did not increase revenues as fast as their industry, as well as those whose stock price decreased by more than 75 percent, were also eliminated from contention. The remaining companies were ranked on revenues, revenue growth, return on equity, total return and profits.
