  • Will the PX500 Series support Fibre Channel at FCS? Yes. The FC1202 Fibre Channel bridge will be available for the PX500 Series tape libraries. The FC1202 is a 2Gb bridge with 1x2 capabilities. The FC1202 router has 2Gb performance. This performance is plenty for 2x LTO-2 or SDLT 600 drives. However, if a customer is utilizing LTO-3 drives, 2Gb will not push two LTO-3 drives at their rated speed. You will need to work with your customer to determine if this will be an issue within their infrastructure.

  • The PX500 Series Tape Libraries are over 31 inches long and will require a 36 inch deep rack
Installation is required and needs to be purchased separately for the PX510 and PX506. Installation is highly recommended, but optional, for the PX502.

  • The PX500 Series runs in M-series emulation mode so all backup packages that are supported in M-series can also run with PX500 Series. Under emulation mode, The PX500 libraries can be accessed at full capacity but some of the operational differences between the two products will default to M-series operations, i.e. mailslot access will be limited to one magazine.

  • If customers run in M-series emulation mode and then switch to PX500 Series drivers, can they access their backups that have already completed? Yes.

  • Will the PX500 Series work in a SAN environment?  We are not doing any testing to certify any specific SAN solutions but the PX500 Series relies on standard communication protocols that should fit into standard SAN environment.

Guardian OS allows Quantum to keep a log on tape drive and library activity over a secure internet connection.  This will allow Quantum to better service customers by having data to detect what caused a failure so we can fix the problem in 1 visit.  We are the only company offering this over our complete product line, every library with a management card is supported.  The customer controls the amount of access Quantum has, this is very similar to the EMC phone home program.
